Kurt-Christian Bull

Kurt-Christian Stier (born February 3, 1926 in Gütersloh ; † July 31, 2016 ) was a German violinist and concert master .

Life

Kurt-Christian Stier, son of a pianist and piano teacher, had his first violin lessons at the age of seven. He studied for two years at the Braunschweig State Music School and at the age of 16 was already a temporary assistant in symphony concerts, operas and operettas at the Braunschweig State Theater .

After serving in the war, he returned from captivity in the United States with serious illness. He studied at the Northwest German Music Academy in Detmold , where he passed his Abitur and the pedagogical supplementary examination, and at the Cologne University of Music with Willibald Roth , Max Strub and Wilhelm Stross, among others .

From 1952 to 1961 he was 2nd violinist in the Stross Quartet and on many concert tours in Germany and abroad. In 1954 he came to Munich and was active in the Richter Orchestra and the Munich Bach Choir . In 1958 he joined the Bavarian State Orchestra , where he was first violinist and from 1960 concertmaster under Josef Keilberth . He was first concertmaster in Richter's Munich Bach Choir for 25 years and has given concerts worldwide. He also accompanied numerous solo musicians. He was co-founder and first violinist of the Munich String Quartet.

From 1966 he had a teaching position at the Munich Music Academy , which appointed him professor for violin in 1975 . He was also Vice President of what would later become the Munich University of Music.

Stier was a long-time board member of the Munich Tonkünstlerverband and its first chairman from 1983 to 1997. In addition, until 2004 he was chairman of the regional committee " Jugend musiziert ".

He lived on the Chiemsee .
