Kurt Bock (born July 3, 1958 in Rahden ) is a German manager. He was Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF from 2011 to 2018 and President of the German Chemical Industry Association from 2016 to 2018 . He has been Chairman of the BASF Supervisory Board since 2020.

Career

Bock studied business administration in Münster and Cologne as well as at Pennsylvania State University (USA). In 1985 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the title "Corporate Success and Organization" with Horst Albach in Bonn.

Also in 1985 he joined the Finance department at BASF . In 1992 he moved to Bosch . There he initially headed the finance and balance sheet department. He later took over the management of the Brazilian subsidiary. In 1998 he returned to BASF and initially became Chief Financial Officer of the US subsidiary. In 2000 he became head of the logistics & IT department at the BASF parent company . In 2003 he was appointed to the Board of Executive Directors of BASF AG with responsibility for the finance department. In 2007 he also assumed responsibility as Chairman and CEO of BASF Corporation, New Jersey, USA. He has been CEO of BASF since May 6, 2011. At the end of the Annual General Meeting on May 4, 2018, Bock left the Executive Board; It is planned that after the statutory two-year cooling-off period has expired in 2020, he will be elected to the BASF Supervisory Board and become its chairman.

From April 2012 to June 2018 Kurt Bock was a member of the Executive Board of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). In September 2012 he was elected Chairman of the Board of the Association of the European Chemical Industry . 2013–2014 he headed the International Council of Chemical Associations ICCA. Kurt Bock has been a member of the executive board and presidium of the German Chemical Industry Association since autumn 2012 . He was elected President with effect from September 24, 2016. In accordance with the statutes, his term of office ran for two years until the 2018 general assembly , when he was replaced in this position by Hans Van Bylen .

Bock is married and has a son and two daughters.

He is also a member of the joint advisory board of the Allianz companies and vice-president of the Stifterverband , a joint initiative of companies and foundations that advises, networks and promotes in the areas of education, science and innovation.
