Kurt Gruber (born October 21, 1904 in Syrau , Vogtland ; † December 24, 1943 in Dresden ) was a German politician ( NSDAP ) and from 1926 to 1931 the first leader of the Hitler Youth (HJ).

Life

Gruber was the leader of the Plauen branch of the youth union of the NSDAP, founded in October 1922 . In 1922/23 he acted as regional leader of the regional association of Saxony, which was constituted on October 10, 1922 as part of the National Socialist youth movement. In 1923 Gruber joined the NSDAP and after the end of the party ban, which was enacted in 1923 as a result of the attempted Hitler coup , he received membership number 7,270 when he rejoined on June 10, 1925.

In 1924 Gruber became head of the Saxony regional association of the Greater German Youth Movement and its leader in 1925/26. In a brief power struggle with the Schilljugend founded by Gerhard Roßbach , Gruber prevailed, and his "Greater German Youth Movement" (GDJB) became the official youth organization of the NSDAP. In July 1926 it was renamed "Hitler Youth, Association of German Workers Youth". In July 1927 Gruber was one of the founders of the Hitler Youth Association in Plauen and became the leader of the HJ district in Saxony.

Gruber had completed elementary and secondary school and studied political science and law in Munich and Leipzig. In 1927 he passed his first state examination in law and completed his legal clerkship at the Werdau and Plauen district courts in 1927/28 . At the end of 1928 he was dismissed from civil service because of political activities for the NSDAP. In 1930 he became a member of the Reichstag .

As Reichsführer of the Hitler Youth, Gruber was gradually ousted and finally resigned on October 29, 1931. His successor was Theodor Adrian von Renteln . For a short time Gruber worked as a youth advisor for the Reich leadership of the NSDAP in Munich. In 1932, as district manager, he was initially managing director in the local politics office of the NSDAP district leadership in Saxony. Then he was secretary until April 1939 and then until 1943 finally head of the Office for Local and Community Policy in the Local Policy Department in the NSDAP Gau Sachsen . At the same time he was the chief editor or editor of the publications Political Education , Neue Bahnen and NS-Gemeinde - Sachsen edition . From December 1934 he owned the municipal publishing house Saxony in Dresden , in which the Saxon municipal political publications appeared.

Gruber also held numerous honorary positions. From May 1935 he sat on the city council of Dresden, where he was responsible for the lending office and storage departments. From 1936 he was the sports director in Saxony and from November 1940 he was the department head for state sports supervision. From 1939 to 1941 he was in charge of the Saxony State Service of the German Municipal Council ; then he became its deputy chairman. From 1941 he headed the Saxon community administration and savings bank school, headed the state pension association of Saxon communities, the business association of Saxon communities and the community damage insurance association. He was 1st deputy head of the Saxon community damage insurance association, NSDAP commissioner for the city of Zwickau , from April 1940 community leader of the state management of Saxony for technical emergency aid and founder of the local political training service "From Town Hall to Front". With the rank of SA standard leader , he belonged to the staff of the SA group in Saxony.

Gruber died of a stroke at the age of 39 . By order of Gauleiter Martin Mutschmann , he received a party funeral on December 30, 1943 in the atrium of Dresden City Hall .
