Lùnapop (also Luna Pop ) was a short-lived Italian pop group from Bologna , who at the turn of the millennium with the album Squérez? achieved great success in her home country.

Band history

In the mid-1990s, Cesare Cremonini and Gabriele Galassi joined Alessandro De Simone to form the school band Senza filtro , with whom they performed at school celebrations. Lorenzo Benedetti and Andrea Furlanetto later joined them. From 1997 they worked together with the producer Walter Mameli and Marco Stanzani, in 1999 the name was changed to Lùnapop . At the same time as the new name, the line-up was also renewed: Benedetti was replaced on electric guitar by Michele Giuliani and Andrea Furlanetto on bass by Nicola Balestri. In this line-up, they entered the race at the San Marino Music Festival and won the young talent award with the song Qualcosa di grande .

The independent label Universo discovered the young group and signed them. In July 1999 the first single 50 Special was released there , which became a radio hit and eventually reached the top of the Italian single charts . The next successful single was Un giorno migliore , and the debut album followed at the end of the year … Squérez? . The album stayed in the top 10 of the charts for a long time and reached the top of the chart in June 2000, where it stayed for 13 weeks. When Premio Italiano della Musica Lunapop 2000 was awarded the Discovery of the Year, at the Festival of San Marino with a Premio Titano and the Premio Lunezia was Un giorno migliore for the best text of a newcomer excellent.

The third single was Qualcosa di grande , with which the group has now also won Festivalbar 2000. Afterwards she started her first, very successful tour. In December of that year, Squérez Special 2000, a limited special edition of their album with two new songs, was released. In 2001 Lùnapop released the Spanish version of their debut single with Vespa Special , and the album was also re-released in a partly Spanish-language version. At the first edition of the Italian Music Awards , the group was nominated seven times and won in the categories of best band, best single, best album and newcomer of the year.

After performing with Resta con me at Festivalbar 2001, the band withdrew from the public and soon broke up. Cesare Cremonini first appeared as an actor in the film Un amore perfetto (2002) on the side of Martina Stella and then began a successful solo career; Bassist Balestri joined him.
