The Zeppelin LZ 36 was Count Zeppelin's 36th airship and the ninth airship of the Imperial Navy .

The first run of LZ 36 took place on March 8, 1915. The navy took over the airship under the military identification L 9.

LZ 36 was the first zeppelin with closed gondolas and the walkway between the two gondolas inside the ship.

The airship carried out reconnaissance, bombed British submarines to submerge and launched air raids on England.

The bombing raid on Hull from L 9 on the night of June 6th to June 7th, 1915 hit residential buildings and businesses and killed 24 people. 40 buildings were destroyed. The roughly 1,000 strong German community in the port city of around 290,000 people suffered for their part from the retaliation of the city's English population.

On September 16, 1916, L 9 burned together with L 6 when improperly refilling with lifting gas, which ignited, in his hall in Fuhlsbüttel .
