Ladislav Josef Čelakovský (born November 29, 1834 in Prague , † November 24, 1902 there ) was a Bohemian, k. k. and k. u. k. Austrian botanist . He researched mainly questions of the systematics and morphology of plants and the history of Czech botany. Its botanical author's abbreviation is Čelak. " .

Life

Ladislav Josef Čelakovský was the son of the Czech poet and translator František Ladislav Čelakovský . He studied at the Charles University in Prague . From 1860 he worked at the National Museum and gave lectures at the university. Between 1868 and 1883 he worked on a flora of the Czech Republic, for which he first described many species .

In 1877 he was accepted into the Royal Bohemian Society of Sciences . Between 1879 and 1900, Čelakovský researched the morphology and physiology of the sexual organs of the naked . His work was taken up by Alexander Braun . In 1880 he was appointed full professor at Prague University.

He is the brother of the legal historian Jaromír Čelakovský (1846-1914) and the father of the botanist Ladislav František Čelakovský (1864-1916).
