Lamellar turbine

Lamellar turbine (Lower Austria / Austria)

A lamellar turbine is a special water wheel that was newly developed for small hydropower plants . It enables more effective operation at low flow rates. Lamellar turbines belong to the group of undershot water wheels.

Execution / function

Instead of the blades of a water wheel, specially shaped lamellae are fixed in a special arrangement on the circumference of the wheel, so that they absorb the water volume available at the location from the inflowing water and convert it into a rotary movement with the highest possible output of its power.

Due to their arrangement related to the respective application, the slats fulfill a kind of "push and drag" function in that the water releases its energy precisely during the time it is in the spaces between the slats; before it enters the interior of the wheel, it has already left the wheel again.

commitment

The lamellar turbine is used in so-called small hydropower plants. The output sizes are in the range from 10 kW to 1 MW.
