The nature reserve is located in the west of Braunschweig in the Lehndorf-Watenbüttel district between the districts of Kanzlerfeld , Lehndorf and Lamme . It places a forest area in a narrow lowland area under protection, which is mainly formed from scramble forest and alluvial forest- like tree populations on damp locations. The forest is free of uses and should develop into a natural forest.
The area mainly borders on agricultural land . In the north it borders in places on further forest areas, in the southeast on the residential buildings of Lehndorf.
The remains of the Braunschweig Landwehr have been preserved in the nature reserve .
