Controversy

On January 4, 2006, Roger Asmussen , who had only been appointed Nature Conservation Commissioner in 2005, resigned from this office due to criticism of the nature conservation policy of the then grand coalition. Asmussen is a CDU member and was Finance Minister of Schleswig-Holstein from April 13, 1983 to May 31, 1988. Since June 9, 1987, he was also State Minister for Economics and Transport. There are three main reasons that prompt him to take this step. The first reason was the "State Ordinance on Hunting Species and Hunting Seasons", which came into force on October 18, 2005, in which carrion crows and magpies were incorporated into hunting rights and allowed to be shot with them. The second reason was that a draft of the cormorant regulation was not withdrawn in accordance with a vote of the advisory board at the state nature conservation officer. And finally, Asmussen criticized that the ministry had warned him not to conduct his own public relations work.
