The regional church archive Kassel is the central archive of the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck . The archive exercises specialist supervision over the archives and archive maintenance in the regional church. As an institution with no legal capacity, it is assigned to the Department of the Vice President, Landeskirchenamt Kassel. The management is in the hands of Bettina Wischhöfer . The archive is located at Lessingstrasse 15 A in the Vorderer Westen district.

history

The regional church archive has existed since 1994. After a four-year planning and construction period, the storage facilities and administrative rooms in Lessingstrasse were inaugurated in May 1997. The three-storey warehouse building offers space for 9,000 meters of shelving. In 2010 the regional church archive in Kassel was included in the directory of nationally valuable archives ( law on the protection of German cultural assets against emigration ).

From 2004 to 2016 the archive acted as the office of the Association of Church Archives in the Working Group of Archives and Libraries in the Protestant Church (AABevK) . The archive manager has been chairing the AABevK since May 2016.

Stocks

The facility in the Kassel district of Vorderer Westen archives the documents of the regional church facilities and their governing bodies. Church registers are available online via the Archion church register portal . Other central holdings are consistorial files, parish archives, prior and bequests as well as collections.
