State Hospital Society

The Landeskrankenhausgesellschaft is an association of carriers of approved hospitals in the respective federal state (Section 108a of the Social Code - SGB V). As an association under private law, it is the association of the hospital owners at the state level. Membership in the respective regional hospital society is voluntary for the various hospital operators. Nevertheless, the respective regional hospital company concludes contracts on hospital treatment (Section 112 SGB V) and for profitability auditing (Section 113 SGB V) with the regional associations of health insurance companies with binding effect for all hospitals in a federal state . The 16 regional hospital societies in the individual federal states are members of the German Hospital Society .

In addition, they conclude contracts with the statutory health insurance associations for attending doctors in hospitals and for emergency services (Section 115 SGB V). Since 2005 they act together with the health insurance in the country and the state base value from.
