Langfeld is a part of the market town of St. Martin in the Gmünd district in Lower Austria . The place is located northeast of the center of St. Martin on the river Lainsitz , a tributary of the Vltava . Gmünder Straße (B 41) runs north-west of the village . Langfeld is also affected by the Waldviertel narrow-gauge railway .

history

The Angerdorf Langfeld was first mentioned in a document in 1550. In 1697 the place was first mentioned in a document as "Lanngefelde".

On June 10, 1895, the municipality of Sankt Martin was hit by a severe hailstorm that caused severe damage. Since then, a pilgrimage on foot to the Langfeld chapel "Maria von Altötting" has been held every year.

The place was connected to the municipality of St. Martin in the municipal reform of 1971 and 1972 with the villages of Anger, Schöllbüchl and Schützenberg. A few years later, in the period from 1978 to 1985, as well as the Harmanschlag and St. Martin district itself, it received a water supply system.

In the period from 2005 to 2012, the freight routes in Langfeld, St. Martin and Harmanschlag were renovated.

Culture and sights

Pedunculate oak at Lainitz

One of the sights is the “Maria von Altötting” chapel. The votive chapel was built between 1744 and 1745. Inside is a copy of the statue of grace Maria von Altötting . The chapel is currently protected as a monument . The building is entered in the local list of monuments under registration number 26256.

Further applies a Located on the Lainitz English oak as natural monument . The pedunculate oak is around 165 years old. It has been a listed building since 1978. The tree has a circumference of about 3.3 meters and a height of about 23 meters.

Another natural monument is a maple tree in the north-west of the village. The 145 year old tree has a circumference of 3.1 meters and a height of 18 meters. It was also declared a natural monument in 1978 .
