history
The place Lasberg was mentioned for the first time in a deed of donation in 1125, in which Adalbero von Griesbach donated "his church in Lozperch " and other properties to the St. Florian monastery. From the 12th century on, the Lasberger (Lozpercher) knight dynasty resided here, important Obderenns nobility, who then formed side lines to Bavaria, and in the 15th century migrated to Lower Austria under the Habsburgs. From this time, since 1490, the area is also assigned to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns .
On November 21, 1510, at the instigation of the Lords of Zelking , Emperor Maximilian I raised Lasberg to the market. Thus Lasberg could hold a weekly market and had great economic advantages. The nearby town of Freistadt wanted to dispute these rights and Lasberg had to fight for these rights. Therefore, Emperor Joseph II reaffirmed the market rights in 1785.
The majority of Lasberg was Protestant until 1626, but quickly became Catholic again after the Counter Reformation . One reason for this was that the rule of Weinberg had passed from the Protestant Zelkings to the Catholic Thürheimers . Until 1848, the Thürheimers remained the landlords in what is now the municipality, and the municipality's coat of arms testifies to this long rule.
Between the years 1776 and 1784, the parish boundaries were redrawn and the formerly large parish Lasberg lost many areas to the neighboring parishes. During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times. After 1848 three independent administrations were founded in the area of today's municipality - Lasberg, Steinböckhof and Wartberg . In 1874 the three mentioned communities were united, whereby the place Wartberg itself came to St. Oswald , the former borders can be recognized by the today's cadastral communities.
Since 1918 the place has belonged to the federal state of Upper Austria and this also ended the phase of prosperity in Lasberg. The First World War caused a lot of hardship and suffering in the community, 58 men were killed, missing or died in hospitals. In the post-war period there was great need, which was exacerbated by two market fires in 1935 and 1936 and by a heavy thunderstorm on May 26, 1935, which destroyed the harvest.
After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . After 1945 Lasberg was in the Soviet zone of occupation . In the 10 years to 1955 there was looting, rape and cruel shootings. The Lasberger Johann Blöchl became chairman of the civil administration Mühlviertel and was able to preserve the unity of Upper Austria. After 1955 the infrastructure was expanded and rebuilt and in 1973 Lasberg was even voted the most beautiful village in Austria.
