Idea and Production

Louise Bagnall wrote this film based on her own two grandmothers. As a child, she only saw them as grandmothers, it was only later that the thought occurred to her that they too were once young and had already lived a whole life and had corresponding experiences. Bagnall's grandparents also showed signs of forgetfulness even if they weren't demented.

Bagnall began to sketch individual stages in a woman's life in a notebook. Work on Late Afternoon began in September 2016 . The software TVPaint was used for the animation of the characters , the textures come from Photoshop and the compositing was done with Adobe After Effects .

Emily sits in her living room reliving her memories. In this room the camera is static. The memories, on the other hand, are marked by constant tracking shots and pans to express their vividness.
