Laura Checkoway

Laura Checkoway (* 20th century in Ann Arbor , Michigan ) is an American journalist , film producer and film director .

Career

Checkoway was born and raised in Ann Arbor, where he attended Burns Park Elementary, Tappan Middle School and Pioneer High School. She then moved to New York and attended Sarah Lawrence College . As a journalist she worked for the magazines Rolling Stone , Vibe and The Village Voice, among others . She started working in the film business in 2014. As a »story producer« she worked on the short documentary Home with Robin . Her second documentary production Lucky (2014) was also her directorial debut; she was also responsible for the camera and editing . For her short film Wolffland from 2016, she received an Award of Recognition at the Hollywood International Independent Documentary Awards .

Her documentary Edith + Eddie, about an intercultural couple who got married in their mid-90s, won the IDA Documentary Award of the International Documentary Association for best short film and received an Emmy and an Oscar nomination at the 2018 Academy Awards for Best Documentary Short Film . The film was produced by documentary filmmaker Steve James and pop icon Cher .
