history

The newspaper was founded in 1967 by Pierre Péladeau, the founder of Quebecor. It was initially edited and printed in Montreal , until 1972 when new editorial offices and a printing plant were opened in the city of Québec. The company locked out numerous striking journalists from April 2007 to August 2008 who were members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees ; during this time they published the competing free newspaper Média Matin Québec . Since November 2012 a regional edition has been published for the administrative region Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean ; from 1973 to 1982 there was a regional edition.
