Performances

In the Haydn year 2009, for example, the opera was performed at the Vienna Chamber Opera and in the London concert building St. John's, Smith Square .

action

Nerina and Lesbina, two fishermen from Taranto, are engaged to Burlotto and Frisellino, the respective brother of their friend, who are also fishermen. Unexpectedly, Lindoro, the Prince of Sorrento, appears, who is looking for the rightful heir to the throne of Benevento , whose whereabouts are unknown after the murder of his father Casimiro many years ago. The two fisher women see the chance of a better life with a rich marriage and each claim to be the missing princess and rightful heiress. This of course arouses the displeasure of Burlotto and Frisellino. The old fisherman Mastriccio knows, however, that Eurilda, his supposed daughter, whom he rescued as a baby, then passed it off as his own daughter and raised it, is the real princess and heiress. At a shrine , Mastriccio swears that he saved Eurilda as a baby and is able to convince Lindoro of this. The last doubts are removed when Eurilda, at the sight of the blood-stained dagger with the Casimiro, was murdered, shows genuine despair. Lindoro asks Eurilda's hand and sails with her and Mastriccio back to Sorrento. Burlotto and Frisellino want to punish the faithless fisherwomen, dress up as wealthy cousins of Prince Lindoro and successfully court their own sister, but clear up the masquerade and finally reconcile with the embarrassed lover.
