history
Until the 19th century
Already in the transition period between the Romans and the Alemanni there must have been a settlement, albeit a thin one. The hiding Fund of a large bronze boiler in "Boiler hole" on the band rocks east of the castle Wildenstein points to the beginning of the Alemanni invasions in the second half of the third century and the Roman withdrawal from West Germany. The roughly 40 centimeter high, bulbous vessel with a diameter of 65 centimeters was found in 1999. A Roman coin found in the post-Limes period between 341 and 354 AD.
Leibertingen was first mentioned in documents in 1275, the districts Thalheim 1242, Altheim 768 and Kreenheinstetten in 793. However, the word ending of the place name with -ingen indicates a foundation in the time of the Alemannic conquest from 233, the settlements were always after Court founder named: Leibertingen comes from Liutbert. For a long time, Leibertingen was characterized by charcoal-burning , glassworks and stone ore mining .
The district Thalheim was a Hohenzollern exclave in the middle of Zimmerschem and Fürstenberg territory.
A glassworks existed in the hamlet of Lengenfeld until around 1700. 100 cubic meters of wood were required to produce 100 kilograms of glass. The area was shaped by the heavy consumption of wood.
In the 19th century Leibertingen was part of the Grand Duchy of Baden . In 1874/75 the Grand Duke of Baden had a road built from Rohrdorf to Hartheim that ran through the town.

Buildings
Sacred buildings
- The Leibertingen parish church of St. Peter and Paul houses the so-called "Leibertinger Madonna" from 1525. The church is considered to be a harbinger of the Baroque era. By around 1825, all the deceased in the village had been buried in the immediate vicinity of the church.
- The village church of St. Pankratius in the Altheim district was once a pilgrimage church.
- The church of St. Michael in Kreenheinstetten has a high altar by Schupp, a work of art of the high baroque, as well as two late Rococo altars and new baroque ceiling frescoes.
- The Thalheimer Kirche St. Laurentius was built between 1841 and 1843. It has a uniform neo-Gothic interior.
- The St. Ottilien Chapel , built in 1724 in plait style, is located in Lengenfeld . The altarpiece shows the Protective Madonna and at her feet the citizens in the traditional costume. The altar stone of the chapel comes from the St. Nicholas Chapel, which was demolished in 1777, from the nearby, meanwhile demolished village of Oberstetten.
Castles, castle ruins and palaces
- Wildenstein Castle : The fortress is located on a steep cliff about 200 meters above the Danube near Beuron . It was supposedly mentioned as a castle in 1077 , but this document is a forgery by the Beuron monks. In fact, it was built in the 13th century and rebuilt under Count Gottfried Werner von Zimmer between 1512 and 1554 in a late medieval fortress construction. A youth hostel has been located on the completely preserved castle with bridge and castle chapel since 1971 , the entire complex had previously been completely renovated. The fortress has a 74 meter long outer bailey, two round towers, moats, drawbridge, a main bastion with a command tower, casemates, powder chambers, a castle courtyard with a cistern, battlements, palas with a knight's hall, frescoes from the 15th century and a castle chapel with a copy of the Wildensteiner altar from the hand of the master von Meßkirch . It was also the place where the Zimmerische Chronik was created .
- The Wildenstein fortress also has outbuildings, but these are only preserved as ruins. They are called Altwildenstein (built around 1100), Unterwildenstein , Wildensteiner Burg Hexenturm and Wildensteiner Burg Hahnenkamm .
- Leibertingen Castle was located in the former village of Leibertingen .
- Thalheim is home to a simple Hohenzollern hunting lodge; it is now privately owned.
Others
- The Gasthaus Adler , probably built in 1478, was a hereditary farm and with 77 hectares the largest in Leibertingen. In addition to the Pfarrhöfle , the eagle is the oldest building in town. In over 500 years of history, there have been several changes of ownership, the last being in 1852 when the Biselli family took over the Adler. The family still runs the eagle to this day. There are two exposed vaulted cellars on the property, one was previously used as an ice cellar and during the war years also served as a shelter for children and schoolchildren.
- The Gasthaus zur Traube , the birthplace of the famous Viennese court preacher Abraham a Sancta Clara, is in Kreenheinstetten. In the dining room there is still a working tiled stove from the times of Abraham a Sancta Claras. In 1929 the inn was sold to the Gröner family for 19,000 Reichsmarks. The grape is now run by the third generation. In November 1956, an Abraham-a-Sancta-Clara parlor was set up, and a guest book has been kept since then. The property also has a large vaulted cellar. Bread used to be baked here. In the back there was still a forge.
- There are various field crosses registered as small memorials in the municipality: Leibertingen 16 pieces, twelve in Altheim and as many in Kreenheinstetten and nine in Thalheim.
Natural monuments
- An educational forest trail runs between Leibertingen and Wildenstein Castle . An aviary in the forest is a central part of the path, including eagle owls ; it has around 10,000 visitors a year.
Regular events
- The highlight of the annual event calendar is the Swabian-Alemannic carnival . Old, not documented and hardly mentioned nicknames and nicknames are used. So the name Lerchen could not be clearly explained for the people of Thalheim. The explanation is obvious, according to which the people of Thalheim have always enjoyed singing and still sing the Hohenzollern song with fervor as residents of a former Hohenzollern exclave in the midst of the Baden region . People from Altheim are said to smile , perhaps because they don't jump straight to the point and wait and see before they decide to do something. The Leibertinger is called Rälle , this name also appears again in a modified form as Katzmallibach in the name of the Narrenverein. The origin is not known, maybe a long time ago in Leibertingen there were a couple of overly “obnoxious men”. The Kreenheinstetter are given the unflattering name donkey , although the origin of this name is by no means disreputable. There are two interpretations: In the earlier municipal coat of arms an ibex is shown. The artist who made this coat of arms was a bit unsuccessful in depicting the ibex, the horns actually look more like donkey ears. The other interpretation: In Zimmer's chronicle , a Kreenheinstetten Easter play is described in which the sacristan , riding on a donkey, depicting the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem , received such a violent blow on the head with a palm frond from an ill-disposed neighbor that he fell from his donkey. In 2011/2012 the figure of the Dahlem citizen was introduced to the charcoal burner guild . The historical background is the dispute with the Princely House of Hohenzollern in 1750 about the Thalheim forest. The then "Dahlemer" citizens were able to keep the forest property.
- The Wildensteiner fair has been held annually on the third Sunday in September since 1977. The traditional event, which takes place even in bad weather, attracts thousands of visitors to Leibertingen. At the fair there are, among other things, stalls where old handicraft techniques such as rope making or basket weaving are shown. The actors, the market people, wear medieval clothing. In addition to the market stalls in the town center, guided tours through the areas otherwise inaccessible to the public are offered in Wildenstein Castle on this day. At the same time, the Leibertingen Fluggemeinschaft organizes the Leibertinger Kite Festival on the glider airfield on the edge of the village. It developed from the Leibertinger Flugtage and shows dragon models in a wide variety of shapes, which were created in laborious and long manual work.

An amount of energy that is sufficient to supply 630 households with electricity and which saves 1240 tons of carbon dioxide per year. The system represents EnBW's entry into this form of electricity generation. 17,700 thin-film modules are in use in the 7.3-hectare solar park on the former landfill of the Leibertingen community east of Kreenheinstetten and on an adjacent property.
