Leksands IF ( Leksand's Idrottsförening Ishockey , also Leksand Stars ) is a Swedish ice hockey club from Leksand , which has won the national title four times so far.
history
The club was founded in 1919 with the sections bandy and football and from 1938 an ice hockey department belonged to the club. The team rose to the top Swedish leagues for the first time before the 1948/49 season and was one of the top teams in the championship round from 1950 to 2001. The most successful phase in the club's history was the beginning of the 1970s, when four championship titles were achieved (1969, 1973, 1974, 1975).
It was not until 2001 that the club rose from the Elitserien to the Allsvenskan . Since then, the team has been commuting frequently between the Elitserien and HockeyAllsvenskan. In August 2007, the club achieved worldwide attention when the former NHL goalkeeper Ed Belfour was signed . However, this commitment failed to return to the Elitserien. In 2016, the targeted promotion to Svenska Hockyligan was achieved . In the 2016/17 season , however, they did not get past 14th and last place and were subject to the Mora IK in the relegation , so that Leksands relegated back to the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan .
Home ground
The club's professional team plays its home games in the Tegera Arena , which reopened in 2005 and has a capacity of 7650 spectators. The official attendance record of 8017 spectators was reached on January 6, 2006 in a game against the rival Mora IK , but since then the maximum capacity has been reduced due to safety requirements. The Isstadion Leksands , built in 1965, held 6,300 spectators and was renovated in 2005, increasing its capacity and creating an additional 272 VIP seats.
The highest attendance record since the club was founded was set in 1964 when 12479 watched the final against Brynäs IF in the Leksand Isstadion open-air stadium . In addition to the ice arena, the club also has a training ice hall, the LRF-hallen , which can accommodate 360 spectators.
