Lennard Maloney (born October 8, 1999 in Berlin ) is an American - German football player who is mainly used as a central defender . He is under contract with Borussia Dortmund and has played international matches for German youth national teams as well as for the US U20.
Career
society
Born in Berlin, he started playing football at Köpenicker SC when he was four . He came to 1. FC Union Berlin at the age of 13 through the youth of FSV Blau Weiß Mahlsdorf / Waldesruh , where he was trained from then on.
With the club's U19s, the defender won the A-Junior Regional League Northeast in the 2016/17 season and was promoted to the A-Junior Bundesliga . The team finished the 2017/18 season in 11th place and barely held the class.
Following the season, on August 15, 2017, he received a professional contract valid until June 30, 2019. For the second division season 2017/18 he moved up to the professional squad of the Unioner. He made his debut on April 1, 2018 in the 1: 2 away defeat in Fürth , until he was substituted for Marcel Hartel in the 77th minute .
After no further missions followed, Union loaned the defender to Chemnitzer FC in the third division at the end of January 2020 until the end of the season . Maloney played eight times in various defensive positions for the Saxons and was relegated to the regional league with them at the end of the season.
For the 2020/21 season, the German-American finally moved to Borussia Dortmund , where he is part of the regional league team and signed a two-year contract.

In April 2018, he said in a trade magazine that his greatest dream would be to play for a US national team. In July he was nominated for the US U20 . He took part in a training camp, but without being placed in a competitive game. Another nomination followed in September and his debut against Jamaica .
Private
Lennard Maloney is the son of a US Air Force - veterans and a German flight attendant . He grew up bilingually and has both German and US citizenship.
