Leon Hougaard Andreasen (born April 23, 1983 in Aidt Thorsø ) is a former Danish football player . During his career he was under contract in Denmark, Germany and England and made 20 appearances for the Danish national team .
Club career
Beginnings in Denmark
Andreasen grew up in Hammel , started playing football at Hammel GF in 1993 at the age of ten and moved to Aarhus GF's youth department in November 1999. In 2001 he moved up to the club's professional squad and immediately became a regular player. He played 105 games in four seasons and scored 17 goals.
Mixed first years in the Bundesliga
In 2005 Andreasen moved to Werder Bremen and signed a contract until June 30, 2009. He hoped that his move abroad would boost his career. However, he could not prevail against the strong competition in midfield, which is why he was loaned to 1. FSV Mainz 05 for the second half of the 2006/07 season to collect match practice . In Mainz, Andreasen, who was strong in tackling and scoring goals, immediately became a regular in the central defensive midfield. He scored four goals and gave two assists in 15 games; The Mainz team was relegated from the Bundesliga. At the end of the season he returned to Bremen.
Unsuccessful interlude at Fulham FC
During the winter break of the 2007/08 season he moved to Fulham , where he signed a three and a half year contract until June 30, 2011. However, he could not prevail at the London club and completed only 19 games until the winter break of 2008/09.
Andreasen near Hannover 96
A year later, Andreasen returned to the Bundesliga for Hannover 96 . There he signed a contract on January 31, 2009 until June 30, 2012. In the rest of the season he was used eleven times. The following year, a series of injuries threw him back again and again; only on matchday 21 did he play for the Lower Saxony for the first time. Two months later, he suffered groin problems that cost him the rest of the season and the entire 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons.
On August 2, 2012, after an injury break of 28 months in the first leg of the third qualifying round of the Europa League at St Patrick's Athletic (3-0), he was back in the starting line-up and scored the goal to make it 1-0. He also scored the 1-0 and 4-3 in the play-off first leg at Śląsk Wrocław and thus contributed to Hannover 96's 5-3 away win. At the start of the Bundesliga , Andreasen kept his regular place in the defensive midfield and scored goals in both the DFB Cup and the league. Thus, in every competition in which Hannover 96 was represented, he scored at least one goal and a total of five goals in just ten games.
On September 26, 2012 (5th Bundesliga matchday), Andreasen suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament in a game against 1. FC Nürnberg (4: 1) . On May 18, 2013 (34th matchday) he made his comeback in a 3-0 win against Fortuna Düsseldorf .
On the 9th matchday of the 2015/16 season , he scored the goal to win 1-0 with his right hand in the away game at 1. FC Köln . Referee Bastian Dankert recognized the goal because Andreasen had not made him aware of his handball. The DFB control committee initiated proceedings against Andreasen for “grossly sporting behavior”, which, however, did not result in any punishment. The decisive factor for the DFB's assessment was that Andreasen was not asked about his goal by the referee.
Andreasen's contract with Hannover 96 expired on June 30, 2016. Like captain Christian Schulz , he had to leave the club as one of the three longest- serving 96 players after relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga . After a long time without a club, Andreasen ended his career.
National team
On March 24, 2007 Andreasen made his debut in a friendly against Spain in the Danish national team . On June 2, 2007 he scored his first goal in the qualifying game for the Euro 2008 against Sweden with the 3-3 equalizer. However, the game was canceled after a storm and was rated 3-0 for Sweden in retrospect. So Leon Andreasen could not qualify for the European Championship finals with the Danes.
The qualifying game for the 2010 World Cup on April 1, 2009 against Albania was to be Andreasen's last international match for three years. Denmark was able to qualify for the World Cup, where he did not take part due to injury.
After a two-year injury break, he was called back to the national team in early September 2012. Andreasen came on as a substitute in the 58th minute in the World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic (0-0).
