Leonhard Romeis

Leonhard Romeis (born January 13, 1854 in Höchstadt an der Aisch ; † November 17, 1904 in Munich ) was a German architect of historicism .

Life

Romeis was born the son of a carpenter. A beneficiary, to which the boy was sent for drawing lessons , recognized his artistic talent early on. On his advice he was sent to the Royal School of Applied Arts in Munich . After graduation, Romeis traveled to Italy . In 1886 he was appointed professor at the Munich School of Applied Arts.

In the same year he married the Bamberg merchant's daughter Anna Ramis, with whom he had five children. His eldest son Benno Romeis, born in 1888, worked as an anatomist at the University of Munich . His son Karl Romeis (1895–1960) was a sculptor. Romeis succumbed to kidney disease on November 17, 1904 at the age of 50. He was knight III. Class of the Order of Merit of Saint Michael .

  • Munich, Richard-Wagner-Strasse No. 5, 7, 9 and 11
  • Munich, Schackstrasse. 1897 four large buildings, neo-baroque. The corner houses facing Ludwigstrasse are designed as a head building, lavishly with domes and groups of figures, some simplification after the war.
  • Munich, tenement Ismaninger Strasse 92, 1898 and Rauchstrasse 1, 1898.
  • Munich, Richard-Wagner-Straße 18, in an imposing corner location, neo-renaissance, bel étage with separate stairwells and stately entrances as well as rental apartments with separate entrances and economic stairs and shops on the ground floor.
  • Munich, 1880 House for Prof. Anton Hess , teacher for sculpture at the School of Applied Arts and for the important style theorist of the 19th century, Dr. Georg Hirth .
  • Frankfurt am Main: One of his most elaborate structures is the so-called Liebig Castle, remnants of the interior have been preserved, 1888 to 1902.
