Leonidas Sampanis

Leonidas Sampanis ( Greek Λεωνίδας Σαμπάνης also Leonidas Sabanis , born October 20 or October 28, 1971 in Korça , Albania as Luan Shabani ) is a former Greek weightlifter and major in the Greek Air Force .

Life

Leonidas Sampanis was born in Albania and became a Greek citizen in 1993.

At the 1996 Summer Olympics , he won the silver medal in bantamweight (up to 59 kg). He succeeded in doing the same in Sydney in 2000 in featherweight (up to 62 kg).

At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens , Leonidas Sampanis achieved the third-best featherweight result; However, due to the fact that the maximum permitted testosterone value was doubled, the bronze medal initially awarded was revoked and given to Israel José Rubio . In addition, he was sentenced to six months in prison by a court in Athens for this doping violation.
