The Lerchenberggymnasium in Altenburg is a state high school . It was founded in 1964 as a Polytechnic Oberschule (POS) and has existed in its current form since 1991. It is currently attended by around 450 students.

history

At the beginning of the 1960s there were plans to build a new polytechnic high school on the Lerchenberg. Work began in 1962 and the shell was completed the following year. School operations began in September 1964, although not all of the outbuildings were finished and some of the outside area also looked like a building site. The cost of the construction amounted to 2 million marks - of which 130,000 marks were provided within the framework of the national construction work. In the school complex there were 20 classrooms and several specialist classrooms for all necessary areas. A modern gym and outdoor facilities were available for physical education. In the after-school care center 150 pupils could be looked after in six after-school hours, and the after-school care garden was also used for leisure activities. The school garden was not only part of the biology class, but also a kitchen garden, because the cultivation of vegetables enabled the school kitchen to have a varied menu. School meals were freshly cooked every day and each student received a meal for a fee of 55 pfennigs. The initial number of students was 700, the teacher 45.

After German reunification , it changed its school structure in 1991 and was transferred to a grammar school, whereby in 1993 the first class with the Abitur left school. In 2011 it celebrated its 20th anniversary.

Buildings and grounds

The school grounds are in a residential area just north of the city center. The school building consists of a main building in which the majority of the class and subject rooms are housed, a gymnasium and a side building in which there are further classrooms. All parts of the building are connected to each other. There is a parking lot for teachers, a green classroom, a football field and several table tennis tables on the premises.
