Lesotho Airways was the national airline of Lesotho . It was founded under this name in 1979 , renamed Air Lesotho in the early 1980s , but has been operating again as Lesotho Airways since 1984.
The airline was completely owned by the state before it ceased international connections in 1996 due to security problems. Until then, it had the sole rights of entry into Lesotho and operated daily flights from Maseru to Johannesburg in South Africa . In 1997 the company was liquidated.

Before its liquidation, Lesotho Airways flew to national and regional destinations. Within Lesotho, Maseru almost exclusively served airfields in the hard-to-reach mountain regions of the country, such as Mokhotlong and Qacha's Nek , but also smaller towns. In addition to South Africa , flights to Botswana and Swaziland were also carried out. With the Boeing 707-326C , flights to the Seychelles were offered at the end of the 1980s , which were mainly used by South Africans. Direct connections from South Africa to the Seychelles were not possible at the time because of the global boycott against the apartheid government in South Africa.
