Leszek Werner

Leszek Werner (born April 27, 1937 in Nowe Miasto Lubawskie , † July 1, 2014 in Krakow ) was a Polish organist and music teacher.

Werner attended the music school in Toruń for two years and continued his studies at the Kraków Music Academy in the organ class of Józef Chwedczuk (graduated with honors in 1962). At the First National Early Music Competition in Łódź, he won second prize in 1962. 1962–63 he studied in Italy at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena and at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. In 1963 he attended the organ class of Anton Nowakowski at the Summer Academy of the Mozarteum Salzburg . Until 1965 he continued his training in Rome with Ferruccio Vignanelli at the Pontificio Instituto di Musica Sacra . In 1970 he took lessons from Flor Peeters in Mechelen .

In 1965 Werner became assistant to Józef Chwedczuk at the Krakow Music Academy. From 1976 he led his own organ class as a lecturer, and in 1991 he received a professorship. He was also dean of the faculty for instrumental music for two years. As an organist he has performed at numerous festivals and has given concerts all over Europe, the USA, Mexico and the Soviet Union. He also worked for Polish television and was a member of the chamber music group Cappella Cracoviensis . He was awarded a gold medal for his teaching activities.
