history
Until the 19th century
In 1124, Leuchtenberg was first mentioned in a document . It was the home of the Landgraves of Leuchtenberg . The Leuchtenberg market was the seat of an upper and a lower court and belonged to the Fürstete Landgraviate Leuchtenberg, which had been Bavarian since 1714 after the Leuchtenberg family died out . The elector carried the title of Landgrave zu Leuchtenberg and partly carried the Leuchtenberg coat of arms in his own coat of arms.
In 1817 Eugène de Beauharnais received from the Bavarian King Maximilian I Joseph the title of Duke of Leuchtenberg, proposed by Maximilian von Montgelas , without any territorial ownership there; his property was the newly formed principality of Eichstätt .
In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, today's community of Leuchtenberg was created with the community edict of 1818 .
In 1842 a large part of the village fell victim to a fire.
Incorporations
On January 1, 1972, the previously independent municipality of Lerau was incorporated. On July 1, 1976 Döllnitz was added with Preppach, which was incorporated in 1945 or 1946, and parts of the Woppenrieth community, which was dissolved at the same time . Michldorf followed on May 1, 1978.
