The lighthouse Emden Westmole stands on the Westmole built in 1899 in the Emden outer harbor and marks the entrance to the Emden harbor as a pier light .

The small, octagonal, red lighthouse with its pointed, red dome stands on a likewise octagonal, m high sandstone plinth. It was built in 1901, shortly after the pier was built, as a pier light for better access to the port entrance. By the Second World War , the beacon had become a symbol of Emden, but was then dismantled in 1944 because the tower stood in the way of an effective air defense using anti-aircraft batteries . The tower was so important to the people of Emden that it was rebuilt in its original location as early as 1946.

The lighthouse was extensively renovated in 1982 and its appearance above the base was greatly changed. The entire lantern house was replaced by a new one with the current sloping windows and the tower was given its striking signal red paint. Since the renovation, the original lantern house has been used as a bridge keeper's house by the swing bridge on Friedrich-Ebert-Straße on Roten Siel in downtown Emden.

The tower cannot be reached freely from the land side, as it is located in the area of the port that is not open to the public.

The international beacon number is B 1026.
