Leutnant auf Orders is a German silent film fun play from 1916 directed by Danny Kaden with Harry Liedtke , Ossi Oswalda and Ernst Lubitsch in the leading roles.

action

Ship Lieutenant Harry Lindström intends to marry one of the three daughters of the landowner von Himmelhausen. His comrades know of this intention and make fun of it to cause a lot of confusion by writing a letter to the future father-in-law stating that the lieutenant-son-in-law and his fellow will switch roles.

This joke of course creates a lot of amusing complications, since the much more inconspicuous and older boy is now taken for his master, while the handsome young officer is seen as his boy. In the end, as the confusion clears, Harry and his landlady and his boy and two other comrades get engaged.

Production notes

Lieutenant on command was created in the Ufa Union studio in Berlin-Tempelhof in mid-1916 , passed film censorship in August 1916 and premiered the following month. The three-act film was around 1,000 meters long in its Austrian version and was premiered there on January 19, 1917.

Ernst Lubitsch is also incorrectly named as a director several times. For him, however, this film was one of his last works in which he appeared exclusively as an actor. For the teenage boy Ossi Oswalda, Lieutenant on command meant the first leading role in a film.

Kurt Richter designed the film structures .
