Liam McAlister Stewart (born September 5, 1994 in London , England ) is a British - New Zealand ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Coventry Blaze in the British Elite Ice Hockey League since May 2016 and plays for them on the position of the center .

Career

Stewart was born in the British capital, London , and is the second child of the marriage of British singer Rod Stewart and New Zealand model Rachel Hunter . After the couple separated, he grew up with his mother in Hermosa Beach , a suburb of Los Angeles in the state of California , from the age of three . There the striker played at the beginning of his junior career for teams from the city area in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League . Among other things, he was active between 2010 and 2011 in the U16 team of the Los Angeles Kings junior program from the National Hockey League . At the same time, he played soccer until he was 13 .

Following the 2010/11 game year, the native British was selected by the Lincoln Stars in the 14th round in the Entry Draft of the United States Hockey League in 203rd place. Stewart decided, however, to continue his junior career in the Canadian Western Hockey League . There he signed a contract with the US team Spokane Chiefs from Washington state before the 2011/12 season . The center forward remained loyal to the franchise for four seasons and played a total of 283 games for the team by spring 2015. He scored a total of 142 points scorer . After he had never scored more than 30 points in the first three years of the game, he finished his last year in the league with 53 points, which is a significant improvement on previous years. The chief assistant captain was the fifth-best scorer of the entire team.

After going unnoticed in the NHL Entry Draft , Stewart signed his first professional contract with the Quad City Mallards from the ECHL after the end of the 2014/15 WHL season in mid-April 2015 . There he made his professional debut in the play-offs . In the course of his two appearances for the Mallards, he scored one goal. In August 2015 he signed a contract as a free agent with league rivals Missouri Mavericks , who transferred him two months later - and before the start of the 2015/16 season - within the league for an undisclosed sum of money to the Alaska Aces . In the Aces Stewart completed only 13 of 72 missions during the season, as injuries forced him to take numerous breaks. He posted four scorer points, including one goal.

In the summer of 2016, Stewart returned to his native country after 19 years when he signed a contract with the Coventry Blaze from the British Elite Ice Hockey League . The striker played 49 games of the 52 season games. Despite his 20 points scorer, however, the Blaze missed qualification for the play-offs and finished the season as ninth in the table.

International

For his country of birth, Stewart ran in both the junior and the men's area at international tournaments. The striker played for the British U20 national team at the 2014 U20 World Junior Championship in Division IB . There the team finished fifth and thus initially achieved relegation in terms of sport. He contributed four scorer points in five tournament games. Ultimately, however, the British were subsequently relegated to Division IIA due to the use of an ineligible player at the Green Table .

Stewart had his first games for the British national team at the 2017 Division IB World Championship , which the team completed with promotion to Division IA. The attacker played all five tournament appearances and scored two goals. He also prepared another one. Two years earlier, Stewart had been appointed to the squad for the 2015 Division IB World Championship for the first time , but had to cancel his participation due to a shoulder injury.
