The Liebig Memorial is a monument in Giessen , built in honor of the chemist Justus von Liebig , who from 1824 to 1852 at the University of Giessen taught. It is located on the southwestern edge of the park by the east facility .

The original marble monument by the sculptor Fritz Schaper depicted Liebig in life size on a pedestal. Left and right were two female figures, Minerva and Ceres . It was set up on July 23, 1890 as a gift from Liebig's students to the city of Giessen.

Towards the end of the Second World War , the monument was destroyed; only the head could be preserved and came to the Liebig Museum to protect it from the weather . In 1952 a simple column, equipped with a bronze copy of the head, was placed in the old place.
