Liisa Anneli Jaakonsaari (born September 2, 1945 in Oulu ) is a Finnish politician of the Social Democratic Party of Finland .

Life

Jaakonsaari served on Oulu City Council from 1972 to 1995. From 1979 to 2009 she was a member of the Finnish Parliament . From 1995 to 1999 she was Labor Minister in Paavo Lipponen's first government cabinet . In 2009 she was elected to the European Parliament.

EU parliamentarian

Jaakonsaari is in the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists & Democrats .

She is vice-chair of the delegation for relations with the Pan-African Parliament.

She is a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the delegation to the EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee. Substitute in the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs and in the Delegation for relations with South Africa.
