Lindy John Remigino (born June 3, 1931 in New York - † July 11, 2018 ) was an American sprinter . At the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 he was a two-time Olympic champion.

biography

Even Remigino's qualification for the Olympic Games came as a surprise: although he had not performed very well in previous years, he came second in the Olympic qualifications, the so-called Trials.

The 100 meter Olympic final in Helsinki was one of the most exciting decisions in the history of the Games. All six runners were almost on par with a time between 10.4 and 10.5 seconds. At first the Jamaican Herb McKenley seemed to be the winner, but the evaluation of the target photo finally showed Remigino as the winner. Over the course of the games, Remigino won a second gold medal with the US team in the 4 x 100 meter relay .

After his athletic career, Remigino became a high school athletics coach.
