In Frankfurt, a local district represents the largest or highest subdivision of the urban area. It often consists of several districts . It can also happen that individual city districts are located in several local districts. The local districts are primarily of political importance, as they have their own local parliaments, the so-called local councils , and each have a local chief . The residents of Frankfurt identify themselves less through their affiliation to a local district, but rather through their district, which represents the classic structural unit.
