List of electoral districts of the Grand Duchy of Hesse
The elections of the non-noble members to the 2nd Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse took place in one-person electoral districts .
1820 to 1849
The original division of electoral districts was based on the boundaries of the offices in the Grand Duchy. It was accepted that the size of the individual constituencies was quite different.
After the constitution of the Grand Duchy of Hesse were omitted
- 10 delegates to the cities (2 each for Darmstadt and Mainz, one each for Gießen, Offenbach, Friedberg, Alsfeld, Worms and Bingen) and
- 34 MPs in the rest of the country.
The MPs in Darmstadt and Mainz (unlike the rest of the country) were elected in two constituencies. This practice was not abandoned until 1911 and these city constituencies were actually divided.
The division of the electoral districts was determined in the "Announcement on the electoral districts" of March 29, 1820 by the Grand Duke.
The 10 city deputies were elected in the following constituencies:

1849 to 1856
As part of the March Revolution , there was a serious change in the electoral law. The electoral law of 1849 provided for a direct and more general election of the deputies of the second chamber. The first chamber should also be chosen. Here, however, a census option was still provided. In this context, the electoral districts were also reorganized. The separation between country and city was omitted. This electoral district division was relevant for the 12th, 13th and 14th parliamentary periods.

With the victory of the reaction , the old electoral law and the original division of electoral districts were largely restored. Due to demographic changes, the Starkenburg Province gained a mandate at the expense of the Upper Hesse Province.
The division of the electoral districts was determined in the "Notice on the electoral districts" of October 20, 1856 by the Grand Duke.

The distribution of the electoral districts was laid down in the "Announcement on the electoral districts" of November 8, 1872 by the Grand Duke.

The electoral reform of 1911 essentially only led to the renaming and numbering of the electoral districts. The separation of urban and rural constituencies was abandoned.
The division of the electoral districts was determined in the state election law of June 3, 1911 by the state parliament.
