An ethnolinguistic map of Burma (note: a number of ethnic minorities are not recognized on this map, including the Rakhine, who make up 3.5 percent of the population).

Myanmar (also known as Burma) is an ethnically extremely diverse nation with 135 different ethnic groups officially recognized by the government of Myanmar. These are grouped into eight "major national ethnic races": Bamar , Kachin , Kayah , Kayin , Chin , Mon , Rakhine and Shan , which are included in the following list of ethnic groups in Myanmar .
