List of Italian members of the EU Parliament (2014-2019)

The list of Italian members of the EU Parliament (2014-2019) lists all Italian members of the 8th European Parliament after the 2014 European elections in Italy .

Strength of mandate of the parties

Not least because of the quarrels over the Letta cabinet , which is led by the Social Democrats , the Social Democratic PD was able to win by far the most EU mandates (31) with over 40% of the vote. Only half a year earlier, the co-ruling conservative PdL had split into the re-founded, opposition Forza Italia and the still- loyal Nuovo Centrodestra under Deputy Prime Minister Alfano through the instigation of Silvio Berlusconi . Accordingly, Berlusconi's Forza lost over half of the seats and only received 13 seats. After the five-star movement had already become the third strongest force in the Italian parliamentary elections in 2013 , the EU-skeptical citizens' movement was also able to achieve a respectable result in its first EU elections with 17 of 73 seats. After the British UKIP , it was the second largest party within the EFDD parliamentary group . The right-wing extremist Lega was able to win five seats. Within the EU Parliament, its members initially remained non-attached, as the planned group Europe of Nations and Freedoms did not initially come about. It should unite right-wing populist to right-wing extremist parties in one parliamentary group. After the founding conditions were met, the ENF was founded on June 15, 2015. The left party alliance L'Altra Europa con Tsipras (The Other Europe with Tsipras) supported the candidacy of the Greek SYRIZA chairman Alexis Tsipras for the office of EU Commission President .
