The Liteiny Bridge ( Russian Литейный мост Liteiny most ) crosses the Neva in Saint Petersburg . It connects the Vyborg side with the city center. It is the last bridge over the Neva before the river splits into different arms in front of the islands in the center.

In the area of the Liteiny Bridge, the Neva has reached its maximum depth of 24 m.

The previous building was a movable pontoon bridge . Caissons were first used in Russia when the bridge was built . The construction was accompanied by several accidents. In 1876 water penetrated a caisson, and five workers drowned. In 1877 another nine workers died in an explosion in a caisson.

The bridge was completed on September 30, 1879. During the opening ceremony, its architect, the military engineer Amand Jegorowitsch Struwe, was promoted to major general.

In the period from April to November, the bridges over the Neva are opened ( bascule bridges ) during the night (from around 1:00 to 5:00 ) to allow larger ships to pass. During this period one can be cut off from the other side of the Neva. The opening takes place in the left of the six segments.

In the vicinity is the Finlyandskiy station , on the right, northern riverbank.
