The Liwa al-Quds ( Arabic لواء القدس, DMG Liwāʾ al-Quds ) is a Palestinian militia fighting alongside the Syrian army in Syria . Together with the 66th Brigade of the 10th Armored Division of the Syrian Army and the National Defense Forces, they defeated IS terrorist groups in the western outskirts of Ithriya in October 2015 , thus securing the strategically important Salamiyya- Ithriya supply route. A group commander, Mohammed Rafi, was killed on November 27, 2016 on the front line against radical Islamist groups in northeast Aleppo. He was previously recognized by the Russian military in October for his services in the liberation of the Handarat camp.
