Ljube ( Russian Любэ ) is the name of a Russian band with a strong patriotic influence. The music is characterized by a powerful, melancholy sound and high demands on composition, arrangement, musical implementation and poetry. It has been one of the most famous and successful formations in Russia since the early 1990s.
development
The development of the group began in the late 1980s on the initiative of Igor Matvijenko with the formation of Klass . The official founding day is January 14, 1989, when recordings of the songs Lyubertsy and Batka Machno began in the Moscow studios Swuk and in the Palace of Youth . According to its own account, the group had an aggressive image at the time of its first public appearance. However, very shortly afterwards it was an overwhelming success, so that the group was invited to a large number of guest appearances, for which they had not yet been prepared. As early as the end of 1989, some songs such as “ Атас ” (battle cry of the Tatars), “ Не рубите, мужики ”, “ Рулетка ” (“Roulette”), “ Не валяй дурака, Америка ” (“Don't play stupid, America”) other top positions in the top ten. Recognition came from established pop music, but also from rock musicians of that time, for example from Yegor Letow ( Graschdanskaja Oborona ). However, there were also voices who refused to accept Ljube as a rock musician. According to an anecdote, Yuri Shevchuk , front man of the group DDT , on the occasion of the release party for the last album by the group Kino Ljubes, singer Nikolai Rastorguyev, denied the right to make a toast to the late Viktor Tsoy as a pop star .

The name of the band refers to Lyubertsy , a city in the Moscow region where Nikolai Rastorguyev was born. Towards the end of the 1980s, the city was the center of the Ljubery , an anti-Western movement that can be attributed to the Soviet Gopnik subculture.
In 1992 the title "No more Barricades", sung largely in English, welcomed the new freedom in Russia .
The current members of the Lyube group maintain a friendly relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin . Ljube is considered his favorite band. Some of them also support political activities of the United Russia party . The singer Nikolai Rastorgujew is a member of the Russian Federation Assembly for United Russia .
On the occasion of Victory Day on May 9th, perhaps the most important national holiday in Russia , the group's concerts have a permanent place in the television program.
Ariel Sharon , the former Prime Minister of Israel , said in an interview broadcast in Russia in 2003 that he liked the group very much.
