In the Ancien Régime , Loco, together with the other villages in the valley, with the exception of Auressio, formed the capital of the valley municipality Onsernone. In the 19th century Loco was a center of straw braiding, whereby the straw braids used for this were also made in the other villages of the Onsernone valley. In addition to the typical houses with loggias, some of whose decorations have been preserved, a number of stately mansions characterize the village.

From 2001 to 2015, Loco, together with Berzona and Auressio, formed the municipality of Isorno . Here Loco was the administrative center. In 2016, Isorno was added to the municipality of Onsernone.
