The RŽD-Arena ( Russian РЖД Арена ) is a football stadium in the east of the Russian capital Moscow . After the renovation between 2001 and 2002, it was one of the most modern arenas in Russia. It is the home ground of the Lokomotiv Moscow football club .
history
The stadium was completed in 1923 and was completely rebuilt from 2001 to 2002. There are currently 28,800 seats available in the stands. The stands of the stadium are covered and offer 979 seats in the VIP - boxes and 296 press seats. It is classified in UEFA stadium category 4 .
It was inaugurated on July 5, 2002 with the league game Lokomotiv Moscow against FK Uralan (2-0). In addition to the home games of Lokomotiv Moscow, international matches of the Russian national football team as well as isolated European Cup matches of various Moscow clubs take place here on a regular basis . The stadium is located in the northeast of the city at 125 Bolshaya Cherkishovskaya Street. The Cherkizovskaya metro station on the Sokolnicheskaya line has been nearby since 1990 .
Since August 5, 2017, the club's stadium has borne the name of the state railway company Rossijskije schelesnyje dorogi (short: RŽD). The Lokomotive stadium has been called the RŽD Arena since then.
