Lorenzo Bernucci (born September 15, 1979 in Sarzana ) is an Italian racing cyclist .

Athletic career

Bernucci turned professional in 2002 and drove for the Belgian racing team Landbouwkrediet - Colnago (LAN) until 2004 . In 2005 he moved to the Fassa Bortolo (FAS) team. After its dissolution in 2006, he joined the T-Mobile team .

His greatest sporting success was the victory in the 6th stage of the Tour de France 2005 from Troyes to Nancy . His other successes include podium finishes at the Tour of Luxembourg and the Tour de Suisse in 2005. He also won the bronze medal in the U23 class at the 2001 road world championships and bronze at the U23 European championships in the same year.

On September 4, 2007, Bernucci was released from the T-Mobile team after testing positive for the appetite suppressant sibutramine , which has been on the list of banned substances since 2006.

In February 2011 the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) not only banned Lorenzo Bernucci himself for five years, but also banned his entire family - his wife, his mother and his father-in-law - from all contact with cycling for four years. His brother, the racing driver Alessio Bernucci , was banned for three years.
