Los Angeles Marathon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Los Angeles Marathon is one of the largest marathons in the world and has been held in Los Angeles ( California ) since 1986 . It was inspired by the marathon at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The event takes place regularly in March.

Route

The route, which will be introduced in 2007, starts on Cahuenga Boulevard near Universal Studios and first follows the course of Hollywood Freeway, then leads over Hollywood Boulevard to the intersection with Vine Street, where the Capitol building is Records then turns south and crosses Hancock Park and Wilshire Boulevard . Crossing the Santa Monica Freeway ( Interstate 10 ) one arrives at South Los Angeles , then turns east and crosses Exposition Park, which is south of the University of Southern California , with the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum . Then head north on Figueroa Street to the Staples Center . There is one final loop that goes east to where the Santa Monica Freeway joins the Santa Ana Freeway before reaching the destination on Flower Street near the US Bank Tower .

A peculiarity of this marathon since 2004 is the "Challenge", in which the female elite starts with a lead that corresponds to the difference in the course records of men and women. Whoever reaches the finish line first of the men or women receives a special price.
