Lothar Gospels
The Lothar Gospel (not to be confused with the Gospel from Kleve, also known as the "Gospel of Emperor Lothar" ) is a Carolingian illuminated manuscript that was created for Emperor Lothar I between 849 and 851 in the monastery of Saint-Martin de Tours . It is considered the artistic highlight of the Tours School.
The gospel book contains 221 parchment sheets , its format is 250 x 322 mm. The book decoration consists of six miniatures, nine framed incipit pages, twelve canon tables , 18 framed chapter lists and five initials . The text is entirely written in gold ink. Today the magnificent manuscript is in the Paris Bibliothèque nationale (Ms. lat. 266).
