Lothar Fischer was one of the most important German sculptors after the Second World War. His works mainly deal with the abstract human figure as well as riders and horses, which he preferred to work in clay. In addition, he created his sculptural work in bronze, iron and gypsum-styrofoam and worked numerous ink-brush drawings and watercolors.

Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, the city where he spent his youth and with which he was closely connected to the end, opened the Lothar Fischer Museum on June 19, 2004 , in which a large part of his life's work and his estate are exhibited.
