Louis Glass (composer)
Louis Christian August Glass (born March 23, 1864 in Copenhagen , † January 22, 1936 there ) was a Danish composer.
Glass received music lessons from his father Christian Hendrik Glass and studied with Niels Wilhelm Gade , in Brussels with the pianist Juliusz Zarębski and with Józef Wieniawski . From 1915 to 1918 he was the conductor of the Danish Concert Association , then head of the Conservatory and the Music Pedagogical Association of Copenhagen.
He composed six large program symphonies influenced by César Franck and Anton Bruckner , a ballet , an orchestral suite ( Sommerliv ), two overtures ( Der Volksfeind and Denmark ), Fantasia for piano and orchestra op.47, oboe concerto op.3 (incomplete), violin concerto op.65 , Romance op.29 for violin, The Big City Awakens (Når Storstaden vågner) - sound image for orchestra op.68 , Livets Dans - three dances for orchestra op.51 , chamber music works (including several string quartets), piano pieces and songs . Like Nancy Dalberg and Rued Langgaard , he was always in the shadow of his great contemporary Carl Nielsen .
