Louis Zutter
Louis Arnold Zutter (born December 2, 1865 in Les Ponts-de-Martel , † November 10, 1946 in Boudry ) was a Swiss gymnast . He went down in history as the first Olympic champion in Switzerland.
Zutter lived in Peseux and was a member of the gymnastics society La Société des Amis gymnastes de Neuchâtel . In 1896 he traveled to Athens as a private citizen in order to be able to take part in the 1st Summer Olympic Games .
In the four competitions in which he started, he was able to hold his own against the strong competition from Germany and Greece. With his silver medal (then 1st place) on the pommel horse , he became the first Olympic champion in Switzerland. He won two bronze medals (for second places) on parallel bars and horse jumping .
