Lucas Birnbaum (born June 9, 1997 in Bruck an der Mur ) is an Austrian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Vienna Capitals in the Austrian ice hockey league since November 2018 .

Career

Lucas Birnbaum started out in ice hockey in the youth team at KSV Eishockey . During his youth he moved to the Graz 99ers . In 2013 he switched to the Red Bull Hockey Academy in Salzburg. Birnbaum spent a total of six seasons in Salzburg. After he was mainly used in the second team - which plays in the Alps Hockey League - Birnbaum signed a contract with the Vienna Capitals in November 2018 . In July 2019, his contract was extended for one year.

International

Birnbaum played in the youth division for the various U-national teams. As captain of the U18 national team, he won the gold medal at the 2015 World Cup of Division IB and thus achieved promotion to Division IA.

For the U20 national team, he played in Division IA at the 2016 and 2017 World Cups .

With the Red Bull Hockey Juniors team he played in the Jr. A SM-liiga (Finland), MHL (Russia) and RBS Elite Junior A (Switzerland).
