Lucas Christopher Duda (born February 3, 1986 in Fontana , California ) is an American baseball player in Major League Baseball . The defensive preferred on the first base but also in the entire outfield Duda was chosen in the Rule 4 Draft 2007 by the New York Mets and has been playing in the MLB for the franchise since the 2010 season .

Career

College and Minor Leagues

After high school at Arlington High in Riverside, California , Lucas Duda played 143 games for the USC Trojans from 2005 to 2007 while at the University of Southern California . The New York Mets selected Duda in the 2007 draft in the seventh round as a total of 243th player.

After previous assignments with the Waikiki Beach Boys in the Hawaii Winter Baseball League, Duda started in 2007 with the Brooklyn Cyclones at Short Season A-Level and was used one level higher with the St. Lucie Mets in 2008 . There he played 133 games in 2008, scored 66 RBI and was upgraded to the AA team of the New York Mets, the Binghamton Mets , due to the good performance in 2009 . After 155 appearances for Binghamton with a total of 85 RBI and 15 home runs , Duda was then transferred to the then AAA team of the Mets to the Buffalo Bisons during the 2010 season . After 38 missions for the bison in the International League , he was finally appointed to the squad of the Major League team in September 2010.

Major League

Duda made his debut on September 1, 2010 in the 4-1 away loss to the Atlanta Braves at Left Field. Duda scored his first home run in the MLB on September 17 at Citi Field , also against the Braves. He was used 29 times in the 2010 MLB season , always on the defensive in left field, as Ike Davis was preferred to his actual regular position at First Base. In the 2011 season, Duda switched frequently between the Major League and AAA teams of the franchise between April and June. After the last promotion to the MLB team in June, Duda was allowed to play on first base for the first time after Ike Davis was injured after a collision with David Wright and was out for the rest of the season.

In 2012 , Duda was also involved in both the Mets and the bison. In the Major League team he had to give way to Ike Davis again and played defensively mainly in the left and right field and came in 121 games to ten home runs and 50 RBIs. In 2013 he started the season again in the MLB as a left fielder, but then fell out for a month at the end of June due to a strain in the rib area. Following his injury, Duda went through the various minor league levels again and was most recently active again at AAA level with the Las Vegas 51s . The Mets added the 51s to the organization as a new team in 2013, and the bison became part of the Toronto Blue Jays franchise . On August 25, 2013, Duda returned to the Mets squad and stayed there until the end of the season.

At the beginning of the 2014 season , the competition for the first base position developed in favor of Dudas, who convinced with good performances in the run-up to the season and pushed Ike Davis into the background. Finally Davis was transferred to the Pittsburgh Pirates in April 2014 and Duda was sure to have his place in his favorite position. He came to 153 appearances during the year, scored 30 home runs and contributed 92 RBIs to the Mets season.

Duda kept his performances constant in the 2015 season and achieved his first Grand Slam . During the regular season , Duda had to accept 14 hit by pitch and thus set the Mets' internal record. The Mets won the East Division of the National League and moved into the NLDS in 2015 , so Duda came to the first appearances in a post season in his career. The Mets' path led via the NLDS 2015 and the NLCS 2015 into the World Series 2015 and Duda made a total of 15 appearances in the three play-off rounds. He got 3 runs, including a home run and eight RBIs. He achieved both the home run and 5 of the 8 RBI in game 4 of the NLCS against the Chicago Cubs . In Game 5 of the World Series, Duda threw a ball inaccurately to the home plate when the Mets were 2-1 runs, allowing the Kansas City Royals to level. At this point, the Mets were only one end from winning the game. The Royals eventually won the game after 12 innings and the World Series was lost to Duda and the Mets.
